Michigan’s regulated online gambling market closed 2025 with its strongest performance to date, driven by rapid expansion in both iCasino and online sports betting. New figures from the Michigan Gaming Control Board confirm that the state has firmly established itself as one of the most successful digital gambling markets in the United States, combining rising revenues with significant tax contributions.

Online Market Sets New Annual High

Total gross online gambling receipts in Michigan reached $3.8 billion in 2025, representing a 29.5% increase compared with the previous year. Online casino gaming remained the backbone of the market, generating $3.1 billion in gross revenue, up 26.5% year-on-year.

Online sports betting delivered even faster growth, with gross receipts climbing 45.8% to $671.3 million. When promotional spend is factored in, total adjusted market revenue rose 39.5% to $3.3 billion, highlighting improved operator efficiency and stronger holds across the year.

Sports Betting Shows Accelerated Momentum

Adjusted sports betting revenue surged 124.2% to $435.9 million, reflecting a sharp reduction in promotional intensity compared with 2024. Betting handle for the year totalled $5.41 billion, a modest 1.9% increase, indicating that revenue growth was largely driven by stronger margins rather than higher volumes.

Across the full year, the market recorded a gross hold of 12.4% and an adjusted hold of 8.05%.

FanDuel and MotorCity Maintain Market Leadership

FanDuel, partnered with MotorCity Casino, retained its leading position across both verticals. The duo generated $817.1 million in gross online casino revenue and $768.1 million in adjusted receipts, narrowly ahead of MGM and BetMGM.

In sports betting, FanDuel and MotorCity again topped the rankings with $292.3 million in gross receipts and $201.6 million in adjusted revenue, supported by a $1.96 billion betting handle.

DraftKings, partnered with the Bay Mills Indian Community, secured second place in sports betting, while BetMGM rounded out the top three.

Tax Contributions Climb Alongside Revenue

Operators paid a total of $624.6 million in taxes and statutory payments to the state during 2025. Of that amount, $597.5 million came from online casino activity and $27.1 million from sports betting, with tribal payments reaching $71.9 million.

The figures underline the growing fiscal importance of Michigan’s online gambling framework.

December Caps a Record-Breaking Year

The final month of 2025 delivered the strongest monthly performance on record. Gross online gambling receipts reached $399.8 million in December, driven by a new iCasino high of $315.8 million.

Sports betting also remained strong, contributing $84 million in gross receipts. Adjusted market revenue for December totalled $357.9 million, supported by a monthly betting handle of $512.9 million.

Detroit Casinos Hold Steady

Michigan’s three commercial casinos in Detroit generated $1.3 billion in revenue across 2025, slightly below the prior year. Slots accounted for more than $1 billion, while table games contributed $247.8 million.

MGM Grand Detroit led the land-based market with a 48% share, followed by MotorCity Casino and Hollywood Casino at Greektown.

A Mature and Resilient Market

Michigan’s 2025 results reflect a maturing online gambling ecosystem characterised by disciplined promotion, improving margins and sustained player engagement. With record revenues, rising tax contributions and stable operator competition, the state enters 2026 as a benchmark for regulated online gambling in North America.
